STARTUP : AZMED

The company was born in 2018 by three long-time friends with complementary skills and different backgrounds, aiming at optimising and improving patient care. Today, the company team counts 18 people, including a majority of scientific background ( such as deep learning researchers, developers, pharmacists ) as well as quality and regulatory experts and sales managers. Their expertise has been forged both through their academic careers in the most prestigious universities and schools in France and abroad but also professionally through rich experiences in the Artificial Intelligence and Health sector.

Over the past years, the number of radiology examinations has significantly increased while the number of practitioners has stagnated. Knowing that standard radiography accounts for more than half of the examinations performed, AZmed created a solution called Rayvolve, issued from deep learning algorithms, to automatically detect fractures on radiographs. Various features have also been added to the solution for prioritizing examinations, monitoring the activities, etc. The whole solution was developed to enhance radiologists skills in terms of accuracy and time.

AZmed allows doctors to reduce medical errors and save a precious amount of time, to focus on what matters: the patient. Rayvolve allows doctors to save 36% of time and reduce medical errors by 20% (* Clinical Study), meaning that patients will receive better care. Moreover, the unnecessary additional radios for diagnosis will be reduced (through the increase of accuracy), which means a reduction of costs. In this way, the solution aims at improving the patient care of adults and children and as well improving the work environment of doctors.

Artificial intelligence analysis of medical imaging is a growing sector in research with an interesting panel of competitors. However, in France and Europe, very few developed a solution for the detection of bone lesions on x-rays. AZmed elaborated an algorithm that can spot any bone lesion, on any part of the body, in less than a second and display it on the image framed by a white square. The solution is easily implemented on the doctor’s workflow, not requiring any additional step but only adding an accurate and rapid diagnosis. The company also strongly involves doctors from hospitals and radiology centers by building real partnerships to develop the solution.

The wealth and success of an algorithm is the amount of data it gets, and today, Rayvolve has analysed over 1 million images. Moreover, it was the first artificial intelligence in radiology firm to get a CE certification in France. Rayvolve is now used by more than 100 health institutions, including private and public hospitals as well as private practices in seven countries.
